Thinking about Transferring ?
Make sure you understand the rules. There are many different NCAA rules and regulations for college transfers. For example, transferring from or to a 2 year school is nothing like transferring from or to a 4 year school. The requirements are completely different. You must have a release to transfer from a 4 year school to another 4 year school and be awarded a scholarship...If you are transferring from a 2 year school to a 4 year DI school and you are not a qualifier, you must graduate from the 2 year school first. These are just a couple of the numerous transfer rules you need to know before you decide to transfer. It doesn't seem to be a good policy to allow 2-4 transfers to play immediately yet 4-4 transfers have to sit out a yr. 4yr college students had to meet requirements out of high school. They planned ahead, took the required courses and made the grades. If this is not done, one can alway attend a 2yr college and then transfer. Isn't that sending the wrong message? You are basically being punished for being prepared for college and rewarded if you don't meet the acedemic requirements out of HS to attend a 4 yr. college. Why do 2 yr transfers get preference???
If kids have good gpa when transfering, that should count for something too.
OK, I have a couple questions. I've read and tried to understand the NCAA transfer rules I found on the net. With a 4-4 transfer, there may be exeptions to the sitting out rule. If the student was at a D2 school and goes to a D1-AA, has good grades (over 3.0)full time student/qualifier--does the one time tranfer apply? I know someone who transferred D2 to D2 and does not have to sit out.
What do you have to do to request a one time transfer/waiver/exeption?
In other words, is there any chance to be able to play w/o sitting out?
I recieved a BS from a school that had very limited athletic for women. In particular, they had women's soccer team, so I couldn't play. Now I'm back in school gettng a second BS and have been told that I can't play even though my new school has soccer, because of something called the "5 years to use 4 athletic seasons. That's absurd!! What can I do?
I have a question about transferring and this seems like a good place to ask. I spent my freshman year at an NCAA D1 school but ultimately ended up transferring to another NCAA D1 school closer to home. I did not have to sit out a year because of the sport I play and the fact that I was not offered scholarship money by either institution. I am currently a junior and having some issues with my coach. At this point, I do not wish to return to my team for my senior season. If I do not return, can I use that last year of eligibility for my first year of grad school? Would I be eligible to play right away considering the new transfer rule about grad school? Thanks!

I have a question about eligibility as well. Are the rules the same for DI as well as DIII or are there different rules? I played my freshman year on a team all the way to my junior yr. My senior year over summer I got hurt and still cant participate due to the injury. So my question is, If I sit out this year do I still get 1 more fall year or not? And if I do, would it still be ok for me to swim and play Lacrosse for the school this year without losing the fall year in grad school?

She also is a really good basketball player and really misses it and is thinking about playing basketball next year at her current school or seeing if any other college is still interested.
